"Lawyers, and librarians alike, cannot possibly know the answer to every query they will encounter, but developing the research and information literacy skills to find the answer is key."

Get to Know Lisa A. Goodman

What drew you to the law?

I was inspired by the legal career and civil rights advocacy of former U. S. Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall. His tireless efforts in cases such as Brown v. Board of Education and his fearless use of the law to champion civil rights motivated me to consider a career in the law.

What do you enjoy most about teaching?

I enjoy helping students learn the process of legal research as well as helping them develop skills in evaluating information resources.

What do you hope students gain from your courses?

I hope that students leave my classes with the ability to thoroughly analyze the research queries they encounter and the skills to efficiently locate and apply the sources of law necessary to appropriately respond to them.

What did you do prior to entering academia?

I briefly practiced law in Detroit specializing in labor & employment law and commercial litigation.

What are you passionate about outside of the law?

I am passionate about travelling the world and exploring different cultures. I recently visited the United Arab Emirates and hope to visit Singapore and South Africa in the near future. I also love live music and have been known to travel just to attend a concert!

What are your research interests?

My research interests include legal research, library administration, information literacy, and open access.
