Thoughts on my Time in Japan

Throughout my internship, I worked closely with the Legal Group and provided much assistance to the Compliance Planning and Administration Group as well.

One of the major assignments focused on compliance in their Thailand subsidiary. It was interesting to see all the obstacles an international company faces when conducting business in different countries. Not only is language an obstacle, but people’s moral values and ethics vary.

Another interesting assignment I was given was to conduct a comparative analysis of the sales contracts used in each country. In each country, the company is required to adapt their contracts to satisfy their buyers and to not offend them. Some contracts were complex and extremely detailed while in others they were very generic and vague, so it was interesting to see where the American contracts fell in that spectrum.

Interning with Kobelco in Japan was the best law school experience I have had. I was not only interning in an amazing city filled with great food and culture, but was also working with an amazing company that values their employees and their interns.

I do believe I made great connections in this company and look forward to see Kobelco grow in the United States in the near future.
