Tax Dispute Resolution Clinic

The Tax Dispute Resolution Clinic at the Texas A&M University School of Law provides free assistance to help eligible taxpayers resolve their problems with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). We help with problems such as if the IRS disagrees with the tax returns you filed or you are unable to pay the amounts owed. We do not normally assist with preparing tax returns, but you can find free tax preparation help from Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites here.

Some of the ways in which our students and staff help qualifying taxpayers include:

  • Representation during IRS audits
  • Challenging an audit through the internal IRS appeals process
  • Challenging an audit in the U.S. Tax Court
  • Negotiating installment payment agreements for amounts owed to the IRS

In the Tax Dispute Resolution Clinic, students work directly with clients and have primary responsibility for their assigned cases and are authorized to participate in trial at Tax Court under the supervision of the clinic director, a qualified and experienced tax attorney. Benefiting both students and the community, the Tax Dispute Resolution Clinic provides Aggie Law students valuable real-world experience and skills while also delivering an important service to taxpayers.
