What drew you to the law?

When I started my path in higher education, I was attracted to the study of political science, political theory, philosophy and history. When the practical reality of establishing a career path set in, pursuing a law degree seemed like a natural fit for my interests and capabilities. I saw myself headed toward traditional legal practice, but quickly fell in love with the legal research process and academic study of legal topics.

What do you enjoy most about teaching?

My favorite aspect of teaching is knowing that I am empowering students with the knowledge, tools and resources they need to become competent practitioners and independent, critical thinkers. Although core research theory remains steady, research praxis continually changes as the digital landscape evolves, and I enjoy staying on the cutting edge of what is possible and educating others about different solutions to common problems.

What do you hope students gain from your courses?

My primary goal is for students to gain confidence in their ability to tackle challenging problems, particularly when it comes to using different platforms to research legal questions. As a law librarian, I have the pleasure of working with people one-on-one, so I can tailor solutions to every student’s strengths.

What did you do prior to entering academia?

Prior to entering academia, I mainly focused on my own education and starting small businesses with friends. I have worn many different hats over the years, usually multiple at the same time, ranging from web design and development to working at law firms as a clerk.

What are you passionate about outside the law?

I am passionate about family, technology and gaming, programming, tennis, college football, science fiction (and science fact), politics, music, food, TV series, movies and books!

What are your research interests?

My research interests include the intersection of technology and law, digital scholarship, legal process and civil procedure, privacy law and constitutional law.
